David Novak attended the University of Chicago and the Jewish Theological Seminary of America, where he received his rabbinic diploma. He received his PhD in philosophy from Georgetown University. Since 1997, Dr Novak has held the J. Richard and Dorothy Shiff Chair of Jewish studies as Professor of Religion and Philosophy in the University of Toronto. He is a member of University College and the Joint Centre for Bioethics. He has been on the faculties of many universities, including University of Virginia, the Jewish Theological seminary, and Baruch College of the City University of New York. He has also been a consultant to the governments of United States, Israel and Poland, and to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, and is the author of 16 books.
