We will meet at Lick at 4:00 pm for a tour of the facility and history of the observatory. The evening tour starts at our Visitor’s Center and guests can look forward to seeing the 3m Shane Reflecting Telescope (the main research instrument used by the astronomers at Lick) and learning about the ongoing research in astronomy and astrophysics and, hopefully, weather permitting, viewing astronomical objects through the 36″ Refractor.
At 6:30 pm we will have a picnic dinner outdoors (please bring your picnic dinner). Following dinner, Professor Claire E. Max, Bachman Professor of Astronomy and Astrophysics and Director of the University of California Observatories will speak with us about the existence of billions of extra-solar planets and the implications for religious thought.
At about 8:30 pm when it is sufficiently dark, we will have the opportunity to do some viewing with the telescopes.
We are limited to 40 guests. The cost is $35 per adult and $20 for guests 13-18. It is not recommended for younger children. The limit of 40 is imposed by Lick and so we must abide by it.
