The study of near-death experiences (NDEs) has gained significant attention within the scientific community, with thousands of documented cases where individuals describe vivid, often transformative experiences after their heart has stopped beating or their brain activity has ceased. Scientific research into NDEs, while not universally conclusive, has revealed consistent patterns among those who report them. Many individuals describe sensations of leaving their body, moving through a tunnel, encountering a bright light, or feeling a sense of overwhelming peace. Some researchers suggest that these experiences may be linked to neurochemical processes or the brain’s response to extreme stress or oxygen deprivation. However, the persistence of detailed, coherent experiences reported by people who were clinically dead raises intriguing questions about the relationship between consciousness and brain function. While science has yet to provide definitive explanations, NDEs continue to be a subject of fascination and debate, intersecting fields like neuroscience, psychology, and philosophy.
In this engaging lecture, followed by a moderated Q&A session, Adam will share his insights from years of research and interviews with leading academic experts on NDEs. He will explore compelling questions, offering his perspective on the following questions:
- What are the defining characteristics of a near-death experience?
- How does the Jewish concept of an afterlife differ from that of other faiths?
- What does Judaism teach about what happens after death?
- Is there scientific evidence that people have truly come back from the dead?
- Does the existence of NDEs prove that there is a heaven?
Additionally, the program will delve into related topics within Judaism, including reincarnation, altered states of consciousness, extrasensory perception, and more. Adam will provide a unique blend of scientific and religious perspectives, making this a thought-provoking discussion for those interested in both fields.
