How Free is Free Will? – The Neuroscience of Moral Decision Making will explore how what we know about the brain aligns with traditional Jewish ideas about autonomy and self-determination. Much of religious thought stresses making good and right moral choices, implying that the ability to do so lies within the realm of human control. We will investigate how this notion jibes with modern science. This program will be presented in 3 sessions.
Session two, “The Biology of Free Will” is co-taught by Dr. David Mogul and Rabbi Annie Tucker. Coffee and dessert will be served.
This project is part of Scientists in Synagogues, a grass-roots program to offer Jews opportunities to explore the most interesting and pressing questions surrounding Judaism and science.
