On Sunday, March 21 at 7:00 p.m. we will set the stage for Pesach by accompanying our own Jerry Davis (emeritus professor of Plant Biology, specializing in monocot systematics) exploring the domestication of grains and its implications for human populations – with surprising insights into the prohibitions on kitniyot (yes, there really might be a ‘logic’ to banning lentils alongside wheat!). This will be complemented by a discussion of the centrality of grain and grain cultivation to the Jewish calendar, Jewish observance and Jewish dietary habits across cultures and through the generations. A full plate to be sure!
