Why Is Religion Slow? A Conversation with Dr. David Zvi Kalman

Almost by definition, ethical and halakhic questions take a lot of time to untangle, and technology changes the reality on the ground. And while Judaism tends to have a positive view on technology, it is often slow to respond to these changes.  In a time when we have seen many steps forward followed by steps back, what can we learn with how tradition and technology intersect?

Dr. David Zvi Kalman is Director of New Media at Shalom Hartman Institute of North America, where he researches Jewish law, the history of technology, technology and ethics, material culture, and Islamic jurisprudence.
