Protecting God’s Garden

Protecting God’s Garden

What does it mean to “subdue” the Earth as we are told in the Bible? It has been widely interpreted as meaning that we assert dominion over nature, but there is another sense of the word, one that is nurturing and recognizes how interdependent we are with the environment. As we rediscover this, we also rediscover supposedly archaic Biblical attitudes toward the environment that once served an important ecological purpose, and deserve to be brought back.

This is an excerpt of a sermon given by Sinai and Synapses Fellow Rev. Zack Jackson on July 27, 2017 at Community United Church of Christ in Reading, PA.
