We are now approaching our second High Holiday season in the grip of a global pandemic. Though for many congregations this year will bring a return to near-normality, the effects of COVID-19 on our society are just beginning to be seen, and the threat of future variants of the virus could mean falling back on protocols established in the last year. How do we root ourselves in tradition and stay open to modernity at the same time? How do we embrace both particular and universal loyalties? How will COVID change the future of American Judaism?
