As a species, we are constantly looking for some kind of kinship, both amongst ourselves and with other creatures. Our bodies and minds long for it, and it helps us feel connected to larger social and biological networks. But why has there been such a long history of our denying these connections as well? Evolution denial sets humans apart as an exceptional species, and the lines we draw amongst ourselves lead individual humans to feel exceptional as well. How can we heal these broken connections?
Dr. Agustin Fuentes is an anthropologist whose research focuses on the entanglement of biological systems with the social and cultural lives of humans, our ancestors, and a few of the other animals with whom humanity shares close relations.
